    Hi guys!

    About me

I’m Spagu, 24 years old from the country where we learn to play PLO before we learn to speak, Finland. Unfortunately my parents did not teach me PLO as a child so I have to start now. I’m a Marine Engineering student. I used to enjoy partying way too much but nowadays I only occasionally drink and feel like I have a lot of free time to pursue a healthier lifestyle and get better at poker.

    Poker background

Been playing poker on and off since 2014, first time I really tried to get better was last year. I have tried playing pretty much every single form of poker you can find online. I have always had a really tough time staying true to one game and get good at it. I tried playing MTTs for a long time, actually had pretty good results but I realized balancing your “normal” life while playing MTT’s is impossible. I didn’t really mind the late nights going to 4 or 5 am if I got to the FT and didn’t bust first, but grinding until 3 am and busting in 50th place night after night is not fun.

I have also played some PLO during the years but never really stuck to it because my mental game never was on point, but I always the comfortable at the PLO tables feeling like I have a better intuition for the game, but after losing a couple of stacks the intuition flew out the window. I have been a subscriber to mastermind also a couple of times but as I hopped around the games I have had subscriptions to a lot of training sites and never really studied.

    Poker goals:

    Short term goals:

    1. Finnish the following mastermind courses: 10 week transformation, SRP, CSSPLO and 3B blueprint.

    2. Feel like I am improving my mental game everyday

    Long term:

    1. Get to a point where I can get some extra income from poker, not planning to go pro ever. I think somewhere around 1k$/month would be nice.

    Non poker related goals:

    Short term:

    1. Update this blog once a week to keep myself accountable.

    2. Find myself a poker buddy who wants to learn PLO together.

    3. Workout 3-4 times a week

    4. Eat sugar (candy, ice cream etc) max 1 time per week.

    5. Go to bed before 00:00 during weekdays.

    Long term:

    1. Weigh under 100 kg, right now i’m at 127 kg

    Strenghts:

Math and logic, I feel like I have a good intuition for the game. Work ethic is also on point, I was thinking about writing this one into weaknesses also because I have a tendency to get hang up on one thing that I don’t understand right away and I will literally spend hours and hours on this small little detail. Always had this problem in university also with math problems.

    Weakness:

My mental game is very very bad. Focusing too much on small details instead of the bigger picture.

What has happened since starting this new journey.

I have been able to stay true to my plan and focus very much time on studying instead of playing, probably around 4:1 ratio right now and I plan to keep it like this until I have finished 10 week transformation, SRP and 3B pots courses.

I also reduced my tables to 1-2 rush tables. I feel so much better when 1-2 tabling right now and having the time to think about all the details in the hand.

What am I working on right now.

Getting through the 10 week transformation, slowly but surely.

Preflop game, working with the bucket tool.

Trying to work on a couple of flop situations with bucket tool everyday. Mainly focusing on check raising right now.

Listening to the mental game of poker audio book (I hate reading :D)

End of the month graph, started playing about a week ago:

    PLO5:

Managed to get some ok leaderboard positions too on the days when I played which acted as cool “rakeback”.

Also made the mistake to register a PLO tourney while studying thinking I could study and play at the same time, studying didn’t work out but the tourney did. But a big problem was the tourney on GG didn’t have antes and honestly the final table was so slow, I think the final table went on for around 3h.

If someone already has a study group or wants to start one with me you can DM me on here or on discord Bhapp#8838.

    Hi Spagu,

Really like your title! Moving forward slowly is the way for sure. Also, have similar experiences with Poker as you – starting and stopping a couple of times. Another member of the Mastermind invited me to study/chat together so perhaps you’d be interested in joining once we get going?

    Hey Spagu,

Thanks for creating a blog 🙂 best of luck with your goals not only with poker but also with your weight loss!

Congrats on the 2nd place in a tourney even if it did feel like it went on forever haha

I’d recommend creating a thread in the general section in regards to looking for a study group with guys that play similar stakes to you i’m sure there’ll be guys that’ll definitely be interested!

Best of luck and look forward to following along with your journey!
