    01/09/2020 Reignited

I first joined the mastermind in March, when I was grinding out sessions in 5PLO and looking towards the starry heights of 100PLO. I wanted to improve, and after watching JNandez’s videos, I was sure this place was the to be. Then, I saw RIO was offering free membership after signing up with their pokersite and after that ran out, I was just playing on GG to get that 200% deposit bonus. Safe to say, I got around but the important thing is I came back right Sweat Smile.

Now, my current scenario is this: I have around 300 buyins for 100PLO in my total life roll, but the contract for my primary source of income is running out in October. My expenses are miminal in every aspect and, as we are still feeling the effects of a global pandemic, I am turning this situation into a positive and trying out something I have wanted to do for a long time – play poker seriously.

I recognise it is going to be tough, with most of my efforts currently going to be focused on my mindset – as you can imagine this being anxious times. However, if not now, it will likely be never. It simply is the perfect opportunity to go for it and the only thing in the way is myself. So to keep myself sane, to keep myself motivated, and to keep myself focused, I’m going to writing in this blog on a daily basis. Whether it’s what I’ve learnt, a hand I’ve played, or just a couple of W’s to look at that when I’m stuck at the L’s, I will blog it.

So, follow me through if you like, through the ups and downs, and hopefully we’ll make something great together. Thanks to JNandez, Luuk et al for making this possible. See you on the tables Chart With Upwards Trend

Hey @plonath – awesome intro! I will be following your journey for sure.

If you ever want to jump on a 30 min call, I would be happy to. We can discuss, how you’re approaching the next couple of months and I might have few pointers and ideas for you. We could even record it, so that other players will benefit as well. Let me know if you’re interested, if so, hit me up on discord 😉

    Talk soon, hopefully

    02/09/2020 Refresh

Today, I rewatched the first video of the 10 week transformation course and it’s still as inspirational as before, maybe more so now with the added belief in myself I’ve gained since March.

A couple of quotes that stuck out for me:

“Nothing is a failure” – This one works on two levels for me. One is the way that Fernando describes in the video where he talks about trying new things, studying new areas etc. just because they don’t necessarily succeed straight away (or at all), it doesn’t make it a failure as it is all a part of a bigger learning experience. The other way that I had interpreted is that by doing nothing, is in itself a failure. Many times I have been self doubting, paralysed by anxiety, to do something and took the easy route by avoiding it; eventually these things either pile up, or prevent improvements, both bad in the long run. Avoiding “big” losses or mistakes means you are also avoiding winning, and if you are not winning, then you are just losing on smaller scale (unless its a tie of course but even then there is semblance of winning and losing Sweat Smile).

However, this is not to say that you shouldn’t take breaks or rest (Sleep is the most important tool after all), its just you shouldn’t do nothing either. This links into the second quote “Focus on improving 1% daily”. As long as I am playing, studying, learning, talking, retaining, just doing something poker-related everyday, I’m taking a step in the right direction. It’s a marathon and not a sprint, and by this time next year, I will be 365% the player I am now.

Just stick at it everyday, and you will progress. This gives me the motivation to turn up tomorrow, where I’ll be going over the next few videos in the transformation course.

      03/09/2020 Refocus

I had a relatively free evening today, so after going for a walk and eating dinner, I finished the videos from Week 1 of the 10 week course. Whilst this was productive, I realised why this is where I stopped last time. It is an incredibly daunting process, and this was just the introduction! Everyone says they’re ready to change, ready to go for it, but when you are finally tasked with it, how many commit?

Last time I fell off, and even though I still played poker I just decided it was going to be for fun on the side. This time, I truly feel the anxiety in my chest because I knew I was going through with this and that I am going to stick my neck out for the first time in a long time. So I’ve ordered the recommended books, I’ve picked out where I’m decorating the course material to look at everyday, and next I’m going to consider what ‘experiment’ I should try out. It’s probably going to be diet related but we’ll save that for another time…

Hey @plonath it’s great to have you back in the PLO Mastermind and starting your journey for real now!

I wish you all the luck in your journey to taking poker seriously, whilst it is daunting times right now due to the uncertainty of the pandemic it’s also good to see stories such as yours where you are turning it into a positive and taking the step towards doing what you want to do.

I wish you the best of luck and look forward to following along with your journey!

Thank you @Adelaney, appreciate the support! I’m very happy with how the video turned out today as well, thanks again @jnandez for setting that up. I’m still grinding, studying etc. but preparation with leaving work has been taking the forefront lately so just writing goals in brief notes for myself rather than adding to here.
