My new morning routine.

So i have started a new morning routine five days ago. The reason I have done this is because I felt that my mornings have been lack luster at best and I wanted a way to improve the start of my day. My theory (and others that I have read) is, that if I can organize my morning, the rest of day will fall into place. My routine: 1) Before getting out of bed, I will attempt to recall my dreams. Is my subconscious alerting me to anything. 2) Make my bed. If nothing else I have completed one task for the day and at night it is nice to climb into a bad bed instead of fumbling with sheets. 3) Drink 20oz of water and take my supplements. 4) I do a breathing exercise, this oxygenates my blood providing myself with some extra energy. Right now I am using the william hoff method but I may change it up in the future. 5) Cold shower. This is not fun, but I feel great when I get out. 6) Stretch. I’m getting older everyday so I need to keep my body limber the best i can. 7) Meditation. This helps clear the mind to start the day anew. 8) journal. I write down three thing I want to accomplish and three emotions I want to experience that day. At the end of the day I write a few sentences on how i felt I did with these task and emotions. I make sure to include both negative and positive feed back but try and focus more on the positive. 9) Train the brain, kick starting the brain with some mental exercises. I’m using Lumosity, but there are many similar apps out there. 10) breakfast and read.

    Hey @slzemf

That’s some morning routine, very insightful and definitely some things there I could add to my own morning routine before I start working.

How have you been finding it so far 5 days in?

Do you set routines for the rest of your day too, to have some form of schedule or right now just focusing on the mornings?

    Good luck!

Hello @adelaney . My first few days have been very good, only 1 day when i didn’t complete the full routine I ran short on time and was not able to read my book. As far as a routine for the rest of the day I’m currently not interested in that other then completing the three things on my to do list. I have scheduled out my whole day in the past and felt it to be uncomfortable/unnatural and overwhelming at times trying to follow. In the past when i did write out my whole day/week schedule I would very easily lose motivation when I would get distracted by video games, going out with friends etc. This of course would make me feel like crap, which would cause so many other problems, so for now fuck that shit 😁. At this time I think that after completing my morning routine, if I allow my day to just flow naturally my production and overall quality of life will improve on its own or at least I hope it will (seems that way so far). Cheers !

I dont think im able to do that. But it teases me. So im going to take a shot. I will skip the 8th. I may do the 10th sooner ! I should do 7/ but I dont promise.

I may fail, I may succeed and get bored. I will let you know.

The thing with the morning is Im very sharp with my brain. So I want to study, but I wanna play as well. I dont know what to choose…

We are all different and you will need to find what works for you, this is what I’m attempting for myself and i too may not be able to stick with it but it is worth a try. As far as skipping journaling i think that is fine, but you should still write down three things you would like to accomplish every day. Some suggestions would be to day I’m going to clean my shower, I’m going to study 3-bet pots oop On Ace high boards, and I’m going to take a walk in nature. I believe in having a few small easy goals to focus on everyday can greatly improve the chances on completing the bigger life goals such as becoming a professional poker player or any other life goal you may have. As far as study or playing in the morning it does not mater imo, you can do both, one day study the next play. You should just do whatever one you want on that day, just have fun with it.

One month updated on my morning routine :
For the last 4 weeks I was able to complete 95% of my daily routine everyday (until i went on vacation for 5 days, back at it now).
The only thing I did not have a success rate was my daily reading. I find this to be a little disappointing because I thought it was going to be the easiest task to complete.
The cold shower was the most difficult part of my routine, but possibly the most beneficial. Everyday it took a lot of effort to climb into the shower because, i knew how uncomfortable that cold water was going to feel, I knew it was going to take my breath away, and i knew that it was going suck.
So after the one month of following this routine I can say that it helped my overall quality of life. This now did not fix any of my other life leaks or suddenly make me the best poker player in the world. What it did do is make me feel accomplished everyday, even if i did not compete other task i wanted to through out the day. So through that my overall quality of life did slightly improve.
