    Hi Everyone,

My name is Nicolas, I am born in France and I am currently living in Canada. I am 31. I am working in IT and got a very good job for almost 12 years (important for what is following).

    Poker and me

I discovered online poker in 2007 and since then I played a lot of time on this game, principally Holdem cash & tournament. I had some good & bad moments but never took it seriously except in 2018. But, like always, my mindset didn’t help me and after I improved my bankroll from 500$ to 3000$, I busted it really fast for many personal problems in my life.

Why I decide to invest in PLO Mastermind ?

Since then, I had a bad way of thinking about poker. Even if I win a good salary and got enough money, I never wanted to use this money directly to play & learn poker. I always wanted to start playing in NL2, NL5 & NL10 and use the money I win in poker to pay courses or even play higher. I recently understood that I am still in micro-limit because of high rake & my lack of mental skill to leave those micro-limit. And for sure, I need to improve my technical skill too. As I started to be bored by Holdem, I wanted to learn Omaha. For the moment, I am a “Slight Looser” on this game if I use the description of micro players by Jnandez.

Finally, I decided to invest 1 year in my life to learn this beautiful game and PLO Mastermind was the platform I chose. I am not sure which limit to start (PLO 10 or PLO 25), it will depend of my goal but for the moment I prefer to use my time to improve my technical skill and play in micro, even with the high rake. Principally, because I am subject to tilt if I understand that I lose money because I am doing mistake (sometimes, variance is not the only problem).

What will be my goal ?

In my current situation, I won a good salary with my job and I am not planning to quit. But, I am obsessed by poker and I would like to become a winning player. If after hard work on my game, I can be a regular winner in PLO25 or PLO50, I will be very happy to finally become this player. Second, I plan to work a lot on my mindset, because this is one of my biggest problem with poker. Grinding is not easy, and if my mind need to accept this to achieve this goal.

    First Milestones

Be focus and aware with my 2 first courses (Crushing Small Stakes PLO & 10-Week Transformation)

    Play 30 000 hands in PLO10 or PLO25

Use Mental resource available and use material of J.Tendler given in his 2 books (Mental Game of Poker)

I am a little afraid for my journey, especially with all the work I need to accomplish to succeed and I hope you will help me during this difficult challenge.

Thanks community & I hope to see you soon

    Nicolas

    Hello,

    Thank you Adelaney.

Finally, after one week of study, I am very happy with all materials provided. I spoke with Luuk at the beginning of the week and he showed me the different courses available in the website.

For the moment, I spent all my time on the 10 week transformation. After a few videos, I really understood what means “hard working” and we all need a solid understanding of preflop range to be successful in poker.

This is my study’s plan for next few days:

    – Study opening range by position (UTG/MP/CO/BU/SB)

    – Study 3Bet & 4Bet range against multiple positions

    – Study cold call range

I discovered the training software PLO Trainer and this is really the best way to learn. After a few research about how I play in certain situation in HM3, I can practice and learn with quizzes and PLO Trainer. For the moment, I spent 3 days on UTG/MP/CO/BU RFI range and I will work next week on 3Bet & 4Bet range.

I was really far to play the perfect range before and I am sure that I will have better post flop decisions in the future when my preflop game will be more solid.

      Hey Nicolas,

Sounds like a great way to start learning the game. I found the CSSPLO course to be extremely useful for the 25PL and 50PL stakes, especially since it focuses more on the player tendencies.

Regarding the Preflop Trainer, one thing I would recommend to do is to look at how the EV of certain hands holds up when you go 3/4/5way. At the lower stakes your gonna have a lot of multiway pots and it helps to know what kind of hands actually gain EV from having more players in the pot vs what hands you might want exploitatively fold in early positions 🙂

Nice ! I didn’t think about multiway pot for the moment.

Yes, I agree, I switch to CSSPLO course and it is really useful for low stakes.
When I will play a few sessions, I will write a recap of my progress soon, surely in january.

    Hello everyone,

So many things to say but not so easy to write ! First, this is where I am in my game.

Many of those hands was played before I subscribe to Mastermind courses. This month I played a few hands in PLO10 & PLO25.

    – My RFI by position is too low. Maybe, I am afraid to open certain hands and play in difficult spot. I will analyze my database to understand which hand in CO and BTN I am not playing to increase my opening range.

    – The other problem I saw is my game in SB. I am really lost when I need to play SB, I call too much hands. But, clearly, I don’t really like to play a 3-bet pot OOP, I will work my game in SB (cold call & 3-Bet), and how to play 3-bet pot OOP.

    – Also, I saw is that my cold call in position is too low and my defense BB is too low too.

    – My Fold vs 3-Bet seems very high, I am not sure that I have a big leak for the moment but this is an another area where I can look.

Lastly, my biggest problem seems that I stack off too light against some opponents. And I have a lot of problem to play Aces, especially rainbow and single suited.

I start to think that I can call preflop the worst Aces hand and see what I can do post flop because the SPR is too high even when I 3-bet some Aces and I stack off against some hands where I have not a big equity.

    _________________

To resume for the next few weeks:

    1 ) VPIP/RFI too low (CO & BTN)

2 ) Play in SB weak, I need to stop to call in this position and 3-bet more specific hands

3 ) Study my game versus 3-bet against certain positions

4 ) Study my cold call frequency in BTN & my BB defense

If someone can give me advice it would be appreciated. I would like to find players like me in PLO25 or PLO50 who want to discuss and share about our struggle in the game. We could start with 1 or 2 discussion per week and see if we can help each other.

    Thank you,

    Hi Nicolas,

I know what you feel about playing and losing from the SB. Actually, everyone knows that, especially in the low stakes. Im quite impressed by the stats of Jnandez in SB by the way. Im far from that.

In low stakes (PLO25), I definitely can overlimp when there are a lot of players (I know, it is not good about the rake), or fold, because no one plays GTO there, and the range VPIP after limping is about 80% calling a raise. But it is true that OOP, versus 4 or 5 players, with AAKKds, you’re in trouble, because one of them has better than you most of the time, but it costs me a 1/2 pot bet on the flop to discover it.

I think it becomes a little bit more GTO after PLO50, because you begin to imagine some ranges in your opponent’s plays.

Let me know what you think of my thought about that…. I may be wrong
