Hi everyone. It’s time to cut the shit and do it.
I’ve been a long time NL pro online and some live , have played millions of hands 6max HU cash from nl2 up to nl2k. I’ve been grinding so much NL lately and it just seems like a burden… learning GTO and solvers is the norm these days and with fish fewer and fewer it’s really getting exhausting really, I want to switch to PLO for a change
I’m a a relative beginner when it comes to PLO with less than 100k hands played across various stakes and maybe 15-20 videos of PLO watched and right now I am playing PLO50 and 100 combined, depending on my bankroll.
No BS, no slacking around, nothing else but work and 100% dedication to this until I’m happy with where I’m at.

    Long term goals with PLO:
    -become midstakes crusher
    -become good at HU PLO
    -maintain this thread here

    May 2020 goals:
    -Finish The Launchpad video series
-Finish Escape the Micros video series
    -Finish nl100 Play and explains
-Put in a solid 15 days of playing

    day 1
5 and a half hour session only 1400 hands, played 2-3 tables even 1 tabling at the end just trying to focus on learning and thinking about the game.

the second session didn’t go so well.
the main problem i saw happening is that i lose focus after ~2 hours of playing and my autopilot game is really bad since I don’t know what I’m really doing just yet. I can’t just go on a grind for PLO like I am with NL. I need more experience, then I can put in longer hours.

plan is play shorter sessions from now on to avoid this massive non-sd bleeding because of unfocused bad play. watch a video between sessions, analyze some hands played and think about the spots between the short sessions

so far what I am really unhappy about is calls I make on the river. People are just not bluffing, almost none of my calls I made were good. All of the raises I’ve got on the river and had a small boat or smth and called I was wrong. My river call efficiency is 0.95 right now in these 2 sessions.

my 3bet is around 7% which is maybe too much for me right now… my current gameplan is to 3bet all aces, AQQx AKKx with a suit, premium SS or DS broadway hands like AKQJ AQJT etc and that’s it. no rundowns or small DS hands as I have absolutely no fold equity with my guys at these limits and also people are overcalling a lot behind me

I put in 2 sessions with a break in between and the results are much better sessions and quality of play today. totally different from last session where I was playing tired with not only my redline plummeting but i felt the tiredness in my eyes I had to actively stop and think about what hand I had preflop – clearly my inexperience is totally burning me out and from now on I will try to play short sessions but with high bursts of focus and energy. Games are running at this limit 24/7 anyway so no need to go crazy trying to play only certain hours

    finished escaping the micros series
a little review of the first season made by Jnandez:
fucking best videos I have ever seen in my life hands down. Honestly guys you have no idea how lucky you are to have come here and join the mastermind. Keep in mind I have played well over 5M hands of NL and since 2010 I have watched video series that were worth even $1000 at launch and never have I gotten such motivation for poker and even life perspective as a poker professional as I have from this one. the first season of escaping the micros could very well make you see Jnandez as your second father giving you advice in life. Definitely going to be re-watching these the beginning of next month.

Welcome to the new forum @EARTHISFLAT

How you finding the switch so far from NL to PLO?

Glad to see that you quickly fixed a big problem in losing focus and broke your sessions up and immediately saw the difference in results GG!

Really glad to hear that you took away a lot from the first season of Escape The Micros.

Now lets get crushing those monthly and long term goals!

    good luck.

@ADelaney thanks. it’s a different game for sure and a lot to learn. my plan is to just play+study every day and eventually get the experience and bankroll necessary for PLO200+

Finished today’s playing. Had two sessions for over 3 hours but I didn’t play so well. A bit too aggressive, should’ve chosen my spots to bluff more carefully and not so much front-face aggression but rather bluff in delayed situations on flop/turns when opponents check the second or third time.

Also finished THe launchpad series, didn’t realize they were short videos so I’m gonna change the monthly goals and add the Crushing Small Stakes PLO video series

    May 2020 goals:
-Finish The Launchpad video series DONE
-Finish Escape the Micros video series DONE
    -Finish nl100 Play and explains

    -Finish Crushing Small Stakes PLO
-Put in a solid 15 days of playing

today’s session went pretty bad. started with my sleep, I woke up early didn’t get enough sleep and messed up my schedule and was playing like a total zombie the first session. massive bleeding to the redline – horror winrate to nonsd winnings, losing about 800bb in 2800 hands. I ended up winning only because of some coolers and some fish donating stacks in some hands but yeah this can’t continue. I will be looking to cut down on hours played – I keep trying to get back to my normal NL schedule of just playing 8-10 hours which is just not possible for me right now in PLO. I will try tomorrow just 2 shorter sessions of 4-5 hours and probably around 1500-2000 hands.
I just can’t afford playing on autopilot right now. I need to focus fully when playing so I avoid mediocre winrate/high variance and start playing PLO100 exclusively with maybe some shots at PLO200 if bankroll allows it.
tomorrow another day, I will be playing 2 more days and take a break completely off poker on wednesday get a fucking haircut as it’s time after this 3 month lockdown ffs

    <div><div>Db ANALYSIS</div></div>

Rake overall with HU and 3handed included:

    NL50: 15.60bb/100

    NL100:13/70bb/100

I’m overall loser on the BTN in this sample and also losing a lot of money at nonsd in the best position so i don’t like this

coldcalling is not an issue. i am profitable with preflop calls vs 1raiser or 1raiser+caller winning 130bb/100

    3betting is not an issue.

3bet is high at over 8% but winrate when 3bet is 575bb/100 so it doesn’t look bad at all.

stats when 3betting look really good as well:

WTSD% 44 ; WWSF 57 and WWSF rating 1.28 which is super good.

all this tells me is that i have loose opponents who are just getting crushed by good hands postflop and I can keep 3betting strongish hands that can apply a lot of pressure post.

calling 3bets is also not an issue. I’m losing here 140bb/100 on average on all the positions when calling 3bets so when considering my average open/isoraise is over 3.5bb this is quite good.

    BTN steal success(3-6 handed): 19%

    SB steal success(3-6 handed): 26%

Problem seems to be postflop play, and mainly in srp.

Solution to this: open even tighter, open ~30% range and be tighter postflop – try not to inflate the pot without a good hand and see how this changes results.

Hand sample is still too small and it might just be variance but I’m really not happy losing money at nonsd from the BTN

Ended the month with bad results. Less than 1000bbs won over 25k hands at plo50/100 and an evbb of 3.45/100.

We are losing heaps at nonsd – basically bleeding money here. -29bb/100 nonsd losses at plo50 and -13bb/100 at plo100. This is due to me burning out, playing unfocused tired and also quite loose preflop and making some pretty bad mistakes postflop.

I played in these 2 weeks 95 hours and around 30k hands.

I failed on my study goals as well. Finished The launchpad, Escape the micros, Crushing plo100 but I still have Crushing SmallStakes PLO series to watch.

Right now I already had 2 day break because I was completely burned out – was feeling the burn in my eyes when playing and just couldn’t play good at all. I will study the next 2 days with no play – will go pretty hard at it with videos/quizzez and PLOtraining and update this blog then uninstall browser and everything else and just play for 3-4 days.

New goals and new plan for June:

I will attempt to go hard on studying this month and also focus a lot more on playing.

    Study goals:

-Finish Crushing SmallStakes PLO (currently at 20% done)

    -Watch Singleraised Pots series

    -Watch Multiway singleraised pots series

    -Watch Multiway 3betpot series

    -Watch 3betpots Blueprint

-Play 15000 hands on PLOtrainer in different spots preflop. Post results here on forum

    LET’S GO.

    JUNE – CRUSH

Hope you enjoyed the little break, these are interesting times where games have seemingly been amazing across the board for the past couple months now so like everyone it seems you’ve gone hard so good to give yourself a couple days away reset the mind and get back at it when you’re feeling fresh again!

      Let’s crush June!
