Hello mastermind! Just bought the yearly mastermind and thought that I would start a progress log to improve my progress even more.

Currently I am studying finance in university and playing at the same time. I will be free of study responsibilities from the start of march and will focus solely on poker from that point on. I am playing 50PLO on party and gg with ok results so far.

Biggest challenges I am facing right now are study motivation and the lack of volume. I have played about 15k hands per month the last few months with studies going on at the same time and I know I could have played more. I have been a member of the mastermind for 9 months now but I really haven’t put enough volume in studying here and otherwise.

Gameplan now is to start on a few courses and really be active on forums and discord. I will also set some goals in regards to playing volume and update the progress here.

    Goals for december

    – Play 30k hands

    – Update this progress log at least every other day

    – Finish short stack bootcamp and make progress on rewatching 10wt

    – 4-6 in depth study session on different spots and posting about the findings and realizations here

Didn’t play yesterday because it was my birthday but today started the grind and having rough results already. Played 1,6k hands and ran 300$ under ev losing 450$. Pretty rough. I really notice that during these kinds of days my mentality towards poker takes a hit. Will continue playing tomorrow and will just recap some hands today.

This month GG increased the Rush and Cash leaderboards so much that I think that is the obvious place to grind. Getting 100bb+ daily from there with only a few thousand hands will be hugely important for my winrate.

    Hey @payoffwiz

Firstly happy birthday for yesterday hope you had a good day!

Thanks for the support in purchasing a yearly membership and thanks for creating a progress log!

The good thing is the past is now in the past and you’ve realised you lacked the motivation now it’s time to put a plan in action to avoid going back towards that!

Best of luck with your goals for December and hope the sessions go better than todays!

Thanks Ash for the support! You are doing great work here at the Mastermind.

Today went much better in terms of results and gameplay. I played 1,7k hands and won 3,5BI :D. I have noticed that when playing I can sometimes overthink some spots without adjusting for weak opponents. For example sometimes I reason myself to bluff with semi good blockers even when I know that the villain isn’t folding enough for the bluff to work. Gotta work on that more.

Will probably update some graphs and hands later when I have a bigger sample for my progress!

I’ve been wondering if playing really short <30bb at GG really is profitable. The rake is basically always 5% because the cap won’t be reached often.

I think I have been leaking from BB playing that short by defending too much. Just watched a shortstack bootcamp video where jnandez told that in BB with 50bb stack versus a raiser and two callers you shouldn’t basically call at all. Only 3bet or fold. Of course that is vs GTO ranges that really don’t apply to GG games at my stake but still I was a bit shocked there.

I have always logically thought that when super short aka <20bb you could defend alot more even multiway because you can realize your equity pretty well by shove leading on different flops and that way putting the raiser in a sandwich and a tough spot.

Well we will see. I will defend BB tighter from now on as even if my logic is correct I still think I am leaking the most from BB defend when short.

Here are my results since the start of this blog. Happy with the volume and play just gotta wait around for the bad stretch to end. Will be playing a bit less next week as I have some exams coming but I will continue to update often.

Well this week I cannot get same kind of volume as I have some exams coming soon. Will continue to play normally and update normally friday. I will still try to get some volume so that I can get the lowest leaderboard score almost every day.

    GL this week community! 💰

Finally able to post and continue the progress. Still battling with the ev and it is kinda annoying. Played 2k hands yesterday and lost $350 while ev was down $50. I have dropped to play some 25PLO to take a bit of a break from the situation and will try to gain some momentum there.

Also I watched a good member review video here of a 200PLO crusher that played relatively tight and crushed the 200PLO zoom games on stars. It just opened my eyes to the fact that I should probably play even tighter as the meta on GG overall is just way too loose. It could be profitable to play loose and exploit hard but it is mentally and strategy wise much easier to play straight forward and tight.

These spots can be hard on the poker players ego as it is tempting to play looser with the fishes but that will just lead to trouble. I will continue to play decent volume next week and will be posting about results here.

    GL to all!

Dealing with downswings can really be hard especially when there is a big difference with EV and actual winnings. I notice that when playing I really can get annoyed at the fact that I’m running under EV in a session and that can lead to suboptimal plays.

At the end of the day the only way to get out of a downswing is to improve my game and play more. At some point it will end. Just gotta trust the process 😀

Otherwise this month has gone OK. Volume wise things are fine, of course not totally happy with results. Studying has been hard as I already had limited time to give to poker so when I have had time I really haven’t wanted to study only play. This is something I will try to improve during the last few days before Christmas break.

Heres my graph so far. I’ve also gotten almost $300 in rakeback.

Lets crush during the last few days of this year!!

    Hello guys!

This will most likely be my last post this year and in this blog. I want to change the structure of this blog and thought that I would rather start a new blog then continue writing on this one.

    This month:

I played mostly on GG 50PLO RC and regular tables. Games have been very soft and I have played well in them but results have been under ev alot. As you can see from the graph, rakeback at GG means alot. I have tried to optimize my playing so that during most days I play I will cash some LB. I have counted that it can add 2bb+/100 to your winrate.

I haven’t studied too much this month and I know that it is a problem. Finding time and motivation to study has been hard.

    Next year:

So as I already said I will start from the beginning with a new blog but I thought that I would share some things that I have already thought of.

    – Will be studying until 1.3

    – Playing at GG and party > Optimize the volume so that I maximize rakeback

    > Will play 5-6x week so that I cash the min LB at GG for $10

    > Will play exactly the amount a week at party that I rake either 200 or 300 > will try to play the volume so that I could win LB cash

    – Study goal is rewatch the 10wt before march and every day when I play I will go through hands with PLO trainer and share them in the mastermind.

In total would be using about 30h per week until the start of march. After that I will solely focus on PLO and will be upping the hours to 50h+.

Happy holidays and new year to everyone! We will see again in a new blog next year
