From Host to Player
Hello all,
My journey in poker began with my first ever job out of high school as a poker dealer in the local casino. I’d never had any experience in the gambling industry and mostly I wanted an excuse to be up all night on my off nights while at university. This was 15 years ago.
Over the next few years I began playing at a lot of home games with not much success. Not that it really bothered me. My dealing job was a means to an end while studying and though I loved playing poker, I didn’t consider it as a career path I was realistically going to pursue.
After a while, getting to know a lot of people in the local poker scene, I began hosting games of my own. This continued for quite a long time and eventually evolved to becoming a host on most unregulated apps. Luckily for me, due to being quite good with people, I have been fairly successful as a host over several years. Unfortunately for me, it isn’t something I particularly enjoy, nor does it bring a sense of fulfilment. As with my 1st job dealing, it has simply been a means to an end. I think typically, people don’t get into poker thinking, yeah! I want to host games, run poker clubs online and look at rake numbers. It’s never ending stressful work and while rewarding financially… a bit soulless and clinical.
I want to do what I originally intended when I first started playing cards, work hard, be the best player I can possibly be and see what I can achieve on my own merit. Exciting new outlook and looking forward to enjoying playing the game to the best of my ability.
Thanks so much for reading 🙂
