Hi, I’m Jim aka Eeyore, I’m not sad, I just have a laugh that sounds like a donkey, so my friends sometimes refer to me as Eeyore!

I was inspired by Phil Galfond’s Challenge to take a shot at online poker and PLO. I’ve always been a fan of poker, and am very competitive, but was not a winning player the times I attempted to play NLHE. After doing some research, I’ve decided to dedicate myself to a “strict” regiment ( I have a real life job and only expect to play/study on my off time) in order to learn and exceed at PLO. Having finished the Week 1 module, I’m ready to dive in headfirst!

VISION: I am a winning part-time poker player who consistently works on & studies PLO strategy and mental game to get better 1% everyday.

PURPOSE STATEMENT: I play poker to fulfill the competitive desires inside of me, the urge to better myself and others, and to challenge myself. By becoming better 1% everyday, I can become the best version of “PLO Eeyore”.

    MILESTONES:

    – Dedicate at least seven hours a week to studying PLO

    – Complete 10 Week Transformation with all “ACTIONS” adhered to in the allotted time frame

    – Update progress logs and continues on ACTIONS learned in 10WT

    – Complete Crushing Small Stakes PLO and EXECUTE on principles learned (This will have to be kept in check w/ daily or weekly progress log updates)

    – Beat PLO10 for $1500, allowing myself a 100BB bankroll to move up to PLO25

    – Beat PLO50 for 8BB over 100k hands (Is this reasonable?)

Thanks for reading and I am looking forward to becoming part of a team who are bettering themselves everyday. Cheers!

    – Eeyore

    Day 1 & 2: May 30th/June 1st

    Starting/Ending Bankroll: $1630/$1641

Upon completing Week 1 of 10 Week PLO Transformation, I downloaded the Prime Mind App on my phone. I enjoy the first week of 10WPT. Getting prepared to go on a journey, with goal setting & setting up to be prepared gets me hyped. I feel typing out my Vision was a good baseline to start learning a complex, strategical game.

I listened to Phil Galfond & Nanonoko on Jared Tentler’s podcast and started reading JT’s “The Mental Game of Poker”. Only one chapter in but his podcast was great, it’s a shame it is discontinued.

I actually played a little bit of PLO10 just for fun/see how the population is. A lot of limping and no one seems to fold when a person pots it to 6 or 7BBs. I mainly just waited for double suited wraps or double pocket pairs and tried to flop something. Obviously not the “correct” way to play, but I haven’t gotten into strategy yet & I most likely ran well.

I manually updated my HUD for the HUD section, since I have PT4 instead of HM3. Took me some googling but I figured it all out. I still have to figure out how to make that my default HUD over the PT4 default but I’m sure it will take minimal time.

Over the next couple of days I will start/finish Week 2. I think Week 3 will take me a long time to get through, and I will need to study RFI ranges for a long period. Most likely I’ll be playing super tight against what seems to be a limping population tendency. I expect the micro stakes of PLO to be extremely variance heavy so I will have to embrace that & get my mental game on point.

As far as diet and exercise, I lifted weights for an hour with my standard lifting routine (Fierce Five Beginner, for those interested you can google it). I ate a lot of carbs because I had pasta for dinner one night but I did not have any sugar or junk. Always lots of water.

For wind down and meditation not related to poker, I watched the anime My Hero Academia.

Ok! That’s it for me. I might upload this into a google doc and just post the link in my blog. TBD on that though.

    Cheers!

    Jun 1 – 7, Bankroll: $1641

Alright, first week in the books! I finished up “The Mental Game of Poker” & listened to more poker players talk to Jared on his old podcast. I completed the first two parts of Week 3 and have really dived into the RFI ranges. Trying to put them into categories I can remember using the “bottom of your range” method seems to help.

This upcoming week, I will probably listen to some motivational tuned podcasts instead of mindset podcasts. I will finish the Mental Game of Poker 2, and finish up Week 3. RFI will probably take some time to get down.

Work was pretty crazy so I only exercised twice this week but diet was good. Not an excuse, definitely need to be putting in four workouts a week minimum.

I didn’t even attempt to play any this week since once I jumped into the RFI Ranges I realized I had no idea what I was doing. I will keep studying and once I feel comfortable with the RFI Ranges, I’ll take some quizzes, play some hands, and then review my session.

Hope everyone is crushing it. Cheers!

Hi Eeyore. Welcome to the PLO Mastermind, I’ve just found your blog.

I’m looking forward to follow along your journey. I think 8bb is achievable at PLO 50. What site do you play and will you count rakeback towards the 8bb or not? Rakeback and bonuses can be an important part of building up a small stakes bankroll.

RE: Preflop RFI Training – I strongly recommend to use PLO-Trainer to work on your preflop game. After playing a few hundred of even thousand hands you will find yourself very comfortable with your preflop decisions. Have you tried it yet?
