    Intro

Hello everyone, my name is Kristian K (30) from Norway. I am educated as a teacher and for the last three years I have been working as a primary school teacher in P.E, Mathemathics and social studies. However I have always had quite the itch for poker, playing rectreationally and for fun, always dreaming “what if I tried poker full time..”

This August I left my safe long term job as a teacher to bet on myself and play poker.

At first I was very scared of actually calling it quits leaving my old job, however I figured I had to do this to really commit to poker and give it a shot – giving myself 1 to 2 years purely to poker and see if I can make it.

    Finances

I have about 33K$ to my name, this includes 5K$ in my poker roll. My monthly expenses are 1100$

This effectively means I have set aside all the money required for poker and monthly expenses for 2 years. My goal is to get to a poiint where I can play poker professionally to cover my monthly expenses in comfortable fashion. None of this money is tied up to anything, its all mine and im using my savings buy time and bet on myself.

    Poker

Currently I am studying PLO here in the mastermind for 4~ hours everyday aswell as playing 2 hours of PLO10 trying to apply what I have learned. I currently try to study a lot while also providing a weekly 10K hand sample to analyze and see if we are improving. All my action is currently at party poker. I am playing PLO10 purely for confidence and getting down the fundamentals. I am currently rolled for PLO50 with 100BI but I am not confident I can beat or breakeven the stake. The most important thing for me moving forward will be to build strategical knowledge and confidence that I can beat PLO50 and take it from there.

    Upcoming milestones:

    – Record a winning 10K hand sample

    – Complete a monthly schedule full of studying/playing

    – Compliance/confidence to play PLO25

    – Score 95%+ in all RFI categories in the PLO trainer @ 100h/pos sample

    Longterm milestones:

    – Beat PLO50 for a reasonable sample

    – Grow my bankroll to 10K$

    – Weekend trip to Sweden to play PLO

    Lifestyle

One of the main reasons that I am drawn towards poker and betting on myself is the lifestyle. I dislike the 9-5 life. There are certainly parts about working as a teacher that I like – but it takes it toll on me mentally and physically. When I have seen the Vlogs on how online poker players live their daily life this really resonates with me. I am a gamer from back in the day, I enjoy sitting locked in for hours on the computer but also working out in my daily life. More specifically, I am a recretaional cross country runner. One of the things I enjoy the most is going on 1 – 2 days trip to run an event like a 5K parkrun or a 10K trial etc. Now I quit my job in August and I have already been living kinda like I would if I was a professional poker player and I absolutely love it. Sleeping to 9AM, getting up, studying, eating lunch whenever I want, going for a run, back in to study, play some hands and so on.

    Closing thoughts

First of all I want thank everyone at the PLO mastermind, the fact that this program exsists is going to help me tremendously towards becoming a succesful poker player. For the first time in many years I am waking up excited to start with the day and go about my business. Looking forward to hearing from you all.

    Best regards Kristian K

    Hi Kristian.

It seems as a brave bet. I believe you will be able to accomplish this goal if you work hard and in a methodical fashion.

I believe in order to learn and improve your best bet is to play in zoom tables.

In order to earn money your best bet may be apps since the field is real weak and the rake is lower than in party. Also you can have 50% RB if you find a nice agent. Maybe it’s not important for you now but once you hit PLO50 or so you will be more focussed in earning better ammounts so remember this advice.

On the other hand despite having a more free life. Poker must be treated as a job and passion isn’t always there to help us do our best effort. Discipline is important so I’d recommend you to have some established routine and follow it no mather what.

Finally I believe this can be the best bet of your life if you do it propperly.

Go for it! I’l be happy to see your progress 🙂

I highly recommend you to switch the amount of time you use into studying and playing the other way around (2 hrs studying and 4 hrs playing). Also I wouldn’t recommend to try to play as much hands as 10k hands in 14hrs. Playing less tables at once gives you more time to think closely about every decision and analyze your game and opponents while playing. I hope you will succeed, gl!

Jnandez recommends 80/20 study/play ratio when starting out not the other way around like you suggest. It all depends on the current skill level of Kristian but from his post I think following Jnandez recommendation is a better idea. Then when he feels ready jumping into PLO50 rather than working all his way up from PLO10.

Okay then not gonna argue with that. I think I used roughly 1:4 study to play ratio when I moved up in stakes during last fall and winter from plo20 to plo100 but I had some experience already tho.
