Hello everyone. My name is Joseph and I am at the end of Week 3 of my first month here at PLO mastermind. Great to be a part of this poker community. I have already completed several courses such as Crushing PLO 100, Crushing Small Stakes PLO, and Escape the Micros. I am in Week 2 of the 10-week PLO transformation. I have mainly played Hold ’em Sit and Go’s and MTT’s in my poker career, as a way to supplement my income. I have also had some success in PLO rebuy tournaments. Never before have I ever dedicated so much time to PLO cash games. But it’s very fun, exciting, and challenging!

I currently resides in Queens, New York and work full time as a unit clerk at a local hospital. The corona virus has hit NYC pretty hard, and I have had a behind the scenes look at its devastation. Gyms, restaurants, and many other establishments remain closed. With my time after work that I used to dedicate to working out, I have now dedicated to mastering the wonderful game of PLO. With the underground poker clubs throughout NYC closed, and New York as a state not legalizing online poker, I have created an account at Global Poker.

The PLO 50 and PLO 100 regulars seem kinda week. As I compare them to the Party Poker and Poker Stars players that appear in JNandez’s vidoes, there is a lot more limping and stacking-off with mediocre holdings. However, there are usually only between 3-9 tables at PLO50 and PLO100 running at a time, since Global Poker is only available to US and some Canadian territories.

Unfortunately, Global Poker does not allow poker software, so I am unable to use poker tracking software. I have to rely on recall to remember key decisions and big hands. I have been taking extensive notes on players, which definitely helps with some close decisions. Any advice on how to analyze key hands without the usage of Monker Solver?

Through my last month of studying and playing PLO, I have turned a $1,600 profit. Not bad for playing 2 hours after week each day! I know there are still some spots that I am unsure on. But from watching the videos, taking notes, and gaining the experience through playing hands, I feel more and more confident each time I sit down and play.

My goals are to move up the stakes and become the best poker player I can be. There are some very juicy PLO cash games throughout NYC, and hopefully with my online winnings I can build up enough of a bankroll to play them properly bankrolled.

Thanks everyone for reading. This first month has been a blast and looking forward towards my PLO journey. Good luck to everyone at the tables. May the flop be with you.

    Hey Joseph,

Welcome to the community, thanks for creating a blog and sharing your story! I hope things start to get better in NYC soon regarding corona virus.

How did you find the courses you’ve completed so far?

Have you thought about recording your sessions this would be a much better way for you to review sessions rather than having to try and recall certain hands. There’s free software such as Loom and OBS which allow you to record your screen for free.

Best of luck and look forward to following along with your journey!

Hi Joseph, welcome to the PLO Mastermind! Excited to see you post here about your journey. Totally agree with Ash on recording your screen to review your sessions. Take screenshots of hands you have questions about and post them in the forum. Ask questions and participate. I think that’s the best way to improve right now in your situation.

I will follow your blog and I’m looking forward to answer your hand histories and questions.

    Good luck

    JN
