Final move to PLO
Posted by OttavianoCapellini on May 16, 2020 at 4:56 pmHi everyone. I started playing poker in 2009 following the Moneymaker effect. I started with SNG and then moved on to MTT and online cash games. Subsequently, I also had several experiences in live and I was also in Las Vegas once. I have also studied PLO for some time. In general I can say that I have had positive results. This has never been my job although I have always tried to do it professionally. In this moment of my life I would like to try to become a professional poker player in all respects and I believe that plo provides more opportunities than texas holdem. Up to now I have always used poker money to supplement the earnings of my job which after this world crisis could easily decrease or even disappear !! For this reason my choice could also become a forced choice. I started watching 10-Week PLO Transformation videos and I find Fernando’s work extraordinary and also very much in line with my vision and some of the things I have led my life until today. For this reason I am very happy with the choice I made and I am confident that I can achieve my goals. For the moment I will limit myself to those related to poker. I must only be able to make money with poker as much as I did before with poker plus my job. To do this I at least need to play full time and beat NL100 at least. Stay tuned!

ciao. I have started with 10 week transformation. The goal is to take a lot less time to finish this first course. There are several reason. First I have already implemented in my routine a lot of the suggestion and I have made quite a bit of experience already in plo so I mostly need to fix what is wrong in my knowledge. I started with RFI range from EP and I found amazing the bucket tool to sharp my ranges. I’m quite satisficed with the job and tomorrow I will doublecheck my decision in the day sessions and if my decisions will be approved I will move to MP RFI. Making questions to preflop helper I found this strange ( to me) result. and I ‘m not able to understand why QQT9 is an open (marginal off course) and QQJ9 it is not.
-
I guess the T9 can make straights on 876 boards and against villains calling range it play better in general. The EV of QsQJs9 is 0 according to BucketTool, so the difference of EV is only 0.03.
-
Yes for sure I will not open any of this unless the players are bad enough (not so rare) I was just curious about the reason. I found some others starting hands that are counter intuitive for my understanding of the game. At the endo of the preflop study I will have a better idea about.

Ciao, I’m going ahead with my plan to study RFI ranges and I have alreaduy finished EP and MP. It is amazing how I was far from this!!. The goal is to finish within the end of this week. I’m not playing a lot, more focus on the study at the moment. Take care!
-
Today we go deep with BU RFI. CO have been quite difficult. I’mplaying very very little and investing a lot in studying.Ciao
-
RFI is over and ita was a work much harder than expected. It will take at least 2 more weeks in order to finish the 10 week transformation course. I will try to play a bit more next week. ciao.

Hi,
AA22 vs MP seems like an anomaly from the sim. I would ignore it and threat it as the other positions and 3-Bet 100%.
-
Just finished week 6 of plo transformation. Concept are becoming more and more difficult. I’m keeping the schedule of studying but for sure from this week I will reduce even more the time of playing. This is because my focus is now on the strategy improvement. Very happy about all the development.

First month in PLO Mastermind and I’m arriving in the last week of the 10 week transformation. I have not a lot of results to share because I have been focused in learning much more that playing as forecasted. Great job. I need to start to think what will be the next course. Any suggestion is appreciated.

I think a great course for PLO 50 and lower is Luuks course, crushing small stake. A lot of good content, also exploitative plays vs population!
-
Dasim makes a great suggestion, I would also recommend going to the downloads section and on the left hand side selecting the ‘Road Maps’ filter and downloading the small stakes road map as this is a document that is filled with all content suitable for players currently playing the small stakes cash games.

Few days ago I finished the CSS course by Luuk that I found really good.
I’m now passing to Escape Micros and I understand how it is important to keep this blog updated.
In the meantime I played a bit more even if my main goal is to get better and better so the volume is not really huge.
I played only small stakes from plo10 to plo 50.
I have a poker bankroll to gring also higher stakes but at the moment I feel that also plo 50 or even plo 25 is challenging a lot for me so I will keep studying increasing the hands played little by little.
For me this is more important in order to fix my knowlodgies .
This are my goal :
1. Complete the study of preflop ranges I’m folding too much vs 3bet (22%) and not defending enough from BB
2. Follow the roadmap studying at least 2 video per day.
3. Post at more hands in the forum and for Q&A format that is very important. I have been very active in this but in the last period I passed a lot of time viewing videos and missed this important aspect specially to get better in postflop.
4. Start to play at least 10k hands per week. (the graph is from June 20)
Thank you very much for the support.

Hi everyone.
I’m going to do my # 100 session today since I signed up for plo mastermind.
I spent much more time studying and playing and I watched all the videos of the 10week trasnformation, CSSPLO, Escape Micros and SRP multiway courses.
Today as per the roadmap I will start Multiway 3bet pot and I am looking forward to it.
I played around 50k hands and I could post another winning chart but I realize that this makes very little sense.
I prefer to talk to you about the fact that yesterday I had the worst session since or started and, in a sense, one of the worst since I play poker.
The nice thing is that for the first time I see this as an opportunity.
I have already started to examine it and I have found several criticisms to work on.
Thank you all! Really!

Hi everyone
I started the video review Member 2.0 series which I find absolutely fantastic.
I immediately downloaded the file to check my leaks and I saved all the reports in HM3 so that I could do this job next month with little effort.
But I think I need some advice.
The statistics refer to the last month of the game (around 40k hands).
I played from plo10 to plo 50, mainly plo 25.
The fact that I am winning doesn’t have much meaning because the sample is very small, I probably also have good run, but above all I find myself too often in spots where I don’t have no idea what to do.
The good news is that there is a lot to improve, the bad news is that I don’t really know where to start.
I understand that I am too passive both preflop and postflop.
Any comments or suggestions are welcome.
Thank you all.

I would jump into the PLO Trainer and any spots that you find yourself constantly having trouble with especially preflop creating training sessions specifically focused on them e.g could be that you’re struggling with BB vs BTN scenarios create a training session for that scenario. This will help you vastly improve your preflop game if you are not already doing this as it allows you to see the type of hands being called/3bet/folded etc and then add that to your game.
Having preflop situations nailed down will give you a massive edge in these games where you’re generally going to be playing against opponents that do not have the knowledge you do, working on solidifying this will already put you way ahead of the general player pools.

Hey @c4rtperno
The first numbers that stand out to me are you RFI numbers, which are definitely on the low end.
Your BTN number should be close to 50% here and you should be able to steal many blinds by raising more. In addition to this i would look into the other positions also, as these are also too tight. We have been talking about reducing our RFI % from EP/MP but yours are definitely on the low end. I would recommend to jump into the PLO trainer and first train BTN, which is the most important as it happens the most often. I would then look at CO and lastly at EP/MP. Each position can have a couple of % more hands in there.
Check out these videos if needed
https://plomastermind.com/lessons/population-tendencies-rfi-early-position/
https://plomastermind.com/lessons/co-btn-and-sb-rfi-strategy/Next up is the C-Bet Frequency, This number is also very low.
We are aiming towards on avg 50% (the 60% can be adjusted to 50%). You really wanna work in this situation as it is extremely important for your overall poker succes as it happens all the time when playing poker. You need to be aware of the concepts as well as range construction here. I would recommend to train yourself with the quizzes we have on the website as well as with the PLO Trainer. Open up a couple of situation and get a better understanding of C-Bet Frequencies and your range construction. Also check out these videos on this topic.
– Week 5 of the 10 week transformation– https://plomastermind.com/courses/single-raised-pots/
(within the SRP Course first look into the conceptual videos)
there are definitely more topics in your game that need attention, but imo these are the most important right now. I would spent the coming days/weeks on these topics before working on anything else. Keep your focus on only a few parts of the game.

Looking forward to your updates,
All the best

Hey one month is passed and I have a lot to tell you about developments.
First of all It is very clear to me now I want to became a professional poker player and retire from my other business within the next 5 years. It is not a question of money but of the quality of the life.
It is clear to be a professional is not easy at all but I realized that study and play poker is a way to became a better person in several aspects of my life.
I will maybe tell you more about this in the future.
So I updated the leak sheet trying to understand how my game is changed.
I did not add a lot of hands because I had vacation and more dayoff (that is very usefull) anyway there are for sure some indications. I have created a new column with the delta of stats from my previous sheet and I used differen colours in order to visualize better the changes.
My first goal was to fix RFI and cbet frequencies IP where I improuved quite a lot, maybe too much RFI from button now, but this spot show anyway a good profit so I will keep under control but not necessary slowdown too much. I also need to work on table selection because often I stay in tables with short staks or aggressive players on my left thet have off course a bad effect on my frequencies.
Concerning cbet IP and OOP I did not impouved a lot yet but I have already planned a specific work with PLOtrainer + specific videos in order to get better soon. Next month we will check
I’m quite happy with bind defense and coldcalling eve if there is a lot of work to do also there.
I’m a litte worried about 3bet pot where it seems my stat got worse. I hope this is only because of the small sample but I will keep an eye on that too.
I want to thank you all very much for the support.
All the best!
