    Hello,

I need to create some accountability for myself, and therefore I am starting this blog.

My goal is to study at least 1h every weekday of 2023.

This can be HH review, drilling in PLO Trainer, HM3 work, Skype study session w study-buddy etc.

There are 260 weekdays in 2023, so that will be 260 hours of work.

I play PLO500-1k on a few different platforms.

If you want to comment on what I’m posting, please do. All interaction is most welcome.

    Wish me luck =)

Today I’m going through my backlog of saved hands. I did one sesh this morning and will do another one now before it’s time for dinner.

If BU is a loose aggro rec, and we assume that the reg in SB is widening his 3Bet-range, can we explo 4-Bet this hand? It loses 0.20 EV vs folding pre.

    Omaha Pot Limit – €5/€10 – 3 players
Replay this hand on Pokeit – https://pokeit.co/public/225a0JfWP/r

    BU: €275.13 (28 bb)
    SB: €1,622.08 (162 bb)
    BB (Hero): €560.69 (56 bb)

    Pre-Flop: (€15) Hero is BB with K♥ K♦ 9♠ 5♥
    BTN raises to €35, SB 3-bets to €115, Hero 4-bets to €380, BTN calls €240.13 (all-in), SB 5-bets to €645, Hero calls €180.69 (all-in)

Did 1h of excel-work today. Tedious work, just adding the HUD stats into Excel. Did that for 1h, and then drilled some facing 3b COvBU 50bb. We are supposed to fold 34% and 4b 17%. My stats for 2022 were fold 19%, 4bet 25%. I am overcalling IP and OOP vs 3b both deep and short, so that’s what I will focus on preflop in the trainer for some time.

    Now 2h session

Again, this morning I am going through some 50bb stats for PLO1k. For reference, I am trying to add the GTO frequencies at the top of the document for comparison.

To get the correct 3B% I took the 3Bet stats of EPvMP, MPvCO, BUvCO, SBvBU and BBvSB divided by 5. Is that fair or do I have to check all possible 3BP positions? I know the answer is probably yes, but it is such tedious work to do the averages of preflop stats.

Doing it my way, it turned out to be 8% 3Bet overall. I think that sounds right, since I think the 3B% for >100bb is 7%.

And that brings me to my second query: What are the correct stats overall for Squeeze?
I use only one stat for sqz in my HUD: “Sqz (Filter: POS: BB, SB)”. Edit: I just added Sqz (Filter: POS: BU).
I could change the Blinds-Sqz to: Sqz vs BU RFI (Filter: SB,BB). Then the stat will be less polluted, but the sample will be smaller since the Eps won’t be in there. I will have to think about it.

I will take a break and come back to this tomorrow. One hour is up =) Time to drill some facing 3-Bet COvBU.

Had nice days studying Wed-Fri. Did some statistics work, and had sessions reviewing hands with my study buddy. Going through my own stats in an Excel file is very interesting and revealing. The big problem is knowing what the GTO frequencies are, especially for post-flop.

Had no interest in playing today, since I’ve been losing lately. So today I did two session w my studybuddy going through his saved hands.

On Monday I woke up at 2 am in the morning for no good reason, so I watched a few videos to kill the time. I went through all the newest vids released by MM (Shoutout to #Updates in the discord channel). Really interesting stuff. Pro tip is to put all Luuk vids on 1,5speed 😛❤

I still haven’t missed studying on a weekday so far. I got the idea, btw, from a tweet about “never missing two days in a row”. I liked the concept, but I don’t wanna have to study on the weekend, so I had to tweak it somewhat.

Anyways, I’m making a lot of progress, so I’m happy about that.

    Hello,

It’s strange for me to write in this blog, since I don’t really enjoy writing. But I will continue to check in still, but not so often. Progress is going really well though, I’ve only slipped up once, Friday last week, other than that I’ve studied every day. Really enjoying it. I hope to keep it up all year, and I think I will.

It does look nice to see a big X in the calender on every day I studied.

Hello, I really like how you are holding yourself accountable and putting in the work. I only play plo 10-25 currently but aspire to play higher. Thanks for letting me see what goes into it.

Hello! Thanks. Yeah I think it’s the only way to succeed in todays poker climate.

Just got back from visiting family and doing some skiing. So far I have not missed a day of study, which is great. However, I have not had time to play too much so far this year. I am hoping that will change soon.

There’s so much to study, I don’t really know where to start. For now I will go through my backlog of saved hands, and do some leakbusting in my excel-sheet.

My study buddy and I played HU last week on the playmoney tables to freshen up, since I feel really rusty. It’s a lot of fun, and very rewarding since he is a stronger HUPLO player than me. Keeps me on my toes.

I jumping around a lot, also re-reading my old coachs HUPLO book. I love HUPLO and it’s the easiest way to get action when the games are dead, which kind of is the case rn I feel like.

      OK back to studying

I just came back from skiing holiday, and I’m super rusty.

Yesterday I did some drilling in the PLO Trainer, and today I had a session reviewing hhs with my study buddy.

I don’t know where I will or should jump in in my studying right now. We’ll see. I tried to watch some videos yesterday too, but I had a really hard time concentrating. I still counted it as a studying day though, since I tried.

    Hello

Studying going well. Missed two days, but I recovered them last weekend by studying on both Saturday and Sunday.

My old coach is in town so I will probably start doing some coaching from him again. I think I should be putting some money to the side each year and earmark it for private coaching of some kind. And It has to go to coaching. That way I don’t get lazy and slack off. Like, sometimes watching a video here on the MM is not actually studying, is just like fake studying. You know what I mean? No one is holding you accountable to try and remember the stuff you just heard.
When you see a coach like monthly, you have to put some effort in to understand and study what you’ve talked about so that you don’t look bad the next session. Like homework in school or uni. I need that.

Also, I bought Jason Su’s book “Poker with Presence”, and I will try to get through it within a timely manner. If I like it I’ll try and get some coaching from him two. Other than reading Mental Game of Poker a few times I haven’t done any work on the mental side in a long time.

At the tables it’s been going shit =) But this blog is not about that. GL at the tables guys!

    Morning.

So, studying has been going well. I still have done some studying every day, but since I went on a 65 buy-in downswing in just a few weeks I had to revaluate. I can’t but so much time on studying and going to the gym. I need to log more hours, so that I can be more selective with which games I decide to play.

It’s worked well and I am somewhat back on track. The hole is still deep but I am playing smarter and I am enjoying the game more since I am winning.

I had a meeting with my old coach a few weeks ago and we went through my stats and found some huge leaks. This is what I am working on for the moment.

    Good luck everyone
