My goal is to do a road trip across Europe while playing the game I love.

I joined a cohousing community 7 or 8 years ago. I originally grew up in the Flemish , Dutch speaking part of Belgium where I began to do cohousing . Since a year and a half, I live together with a Frenchman and 2 Walloons in Liège , a city in Belgium. The idea of doing a road trip in the span of a couple of years started to develop when I already had experience in playing poker. I thought to myself , why limiting this way of live, this collaboration within a community , to just one place. Could it be possible to look further and at the same time travel , see the world , going on an adventure while playing poker? You have to profit from the fact that borders in the European union are easily crossed, right? (At least in a non corona environment) Also my language skills in French and English are on a reasonable level so that can be useful during my journey.

So I ‘m going to travel, try and search for cheap accommodations , do coach surfing, stay in hostels/hotels and if possible stay in cohousing communities maybe for a couple of months throughout Europe. Afterwards I’ll drive to the next place. It’s in fact a low budget plan which may be a bit a typical for a poker player. In a sense, it’s kind of a minimalistic way of life.

Also, if you guys have tips for me concerning a way of finding stable internet while traveling , share it . These tips are more than welcome. For instance are their hotels who offer fixed cable connection ? How do you guys handle playing in a big live poker tournament and in the meantime playing online? Please let me know.

My main income however will be the rent I earn by offering my house (in Belgium of course) as a place to do cohousing. In that way , expenses for my house will be paid , and in the long run, the house will be paid off, at least for a little part.

Because I have a main income , I don’t have to worry that much about poker losses. On the other hand I’m not a winner at the low stakes yet.

I’m actually in a difficult place right now. Not everything is going the way I want it to go. On top of that , my losses in PLO continue. Also suffered some severe losses the last months. My EV is -3BB/100 h. on a couple of 100 000 h (PLO50). For me the last weeks were a wake up call . I can’t do this anymore . So I have to turn things around.

So I decided to follow the 10 – week PLO transformation.

I’m now at the end of week 1. Because what I have seen so far is highly motivational to me , I decided to spend more time on it . Just one week is not going to be enough in my situation.

Firstly when I started to read the mental game of poker by Jared Tendler, which was recommended , I realized very quickly that there were a lot of problems in the way a approached poker mentally (and I’ m only at page 40 or so). I need to put a lot more energy in this aspect of poker. So I ‘m trying to find a rhythm that allows me to execute the tasks/ guidelines/ mental exercises suggested by Jared Tendler AND simultaneously execute the tasks of the mastermind program.

Secondly In week 1.5 Optimizations Jnandez talks about optimizing not only in poker strategy but in other areas as well such as diet , sleep, etc , which in turn will make you a better poker player , a stronger person.

He suggested to implement one experiment / new idea into your life , track it and integrate it if helpful. I felt like I had to work strongly on these areas as well, so I decided to read a book written by Darin Olien which is called “Superlife , the 5 forces that will make you healthy, fit and eternally awesome”. The title is pretty clear I guess so don’t have to explain that… I wanted to read this book for a long time and now that I began reading , it surprised me in a really positive way. So instead of choosing one experiment I decided to do a little bit more and i will try to change my life in that area as well , through a step by step approach based on the suggestions from Darin Olien.

So I will follow this diet and try to integrate it in my life and at the same time play PLO… I’m not planning on doing this in 10 weeks though , that’s going to be too hard. I will take my time for this big experiment but also for the PLO transformation and the mental game . Because all these goals, ideas etc. are by my opinion connected in a way. All that will be necessary for me to become that PLO low stakes crusher.

So we’ll see what happens ! Let me know what you think. Do you guys think it’s realistic or not well thought. I think I need between 1000 and 4000 Euro per month highly depending on the accommodation and place where i will be at that moment.

Looking forward to hearing your responses.

Hi Filled with rage, I’m also a belgian citizen. Great idea to start travelling in Europe while playing poker. In your shoes I would choose a country where u have better access to platforms with leaderboards and good rb-system. Since we only have access to a few websites and rb is prohibited in BE, we are really in a crappy situation. That means we can already exclude France, Spain, Italy,… The Netherlands and Austria seems great choices from a poker players point of view 😉 Good luck on your journey, I’ll be following!

      Hi Cayla2016,

Thanks for your response. Nice to hear that you ‘re also from Belgium. We ‘re probably a minority here:-) And also thanks for advising to stay at one place for a longer period while travelling. I like the idea. I’m not sure how to start with this though , for instance creating an account and withdrawing money in another country without really living their seems complicated. Thinks like that. But no worries , I just go for it see what happens. If you have other tips , let me know , they are definitely welcome.

    Hey @filled_with_rage

Glad to have you on board here in the PLO Mastermind! Your journey sounds inspiring and exciting. I’m looking forward to see more updates about your travels and experiences (pictures are welcome).

I might look into a portable internet connection, like a USB stick with internet. It can work as a backup plan, in case local internet isn’t stable or available.

I’ve personally found that productivity has a lot to do with stability in your life. Creating and following habits is a lot easier if you’re in the same enviornment all the time. If that’s true, there might be a few challenges out there for you. 🙂

Anyways, I’m really looking forward to see some updates here soon.

    All the best

    Fernando
